► Systèmes photovoltaïques en général - Photovoltaics generally - Φωτοβολταϊκά γενικά

  • - The gradual pollution and environment revalorisation emanate from human activity and mainly from the industrial growth. While in the past, the natural energy of wind and water was enough for human’s energy needs, now we need other energy sources like coal and oil that overload the soil and atmosphere with their combustion products. It's in our hands to develop the means we have at our disposal for the problem's solution, using every exploitable form of soft energy (wind, hydrodynamic, solar) depending on where and how we want to use it. A way of solar energy exploitation is the use of photovoltaic (PV) Photovoltaic Solar Electricity Potential in European Countries - European Commission JRC 2006systems. The photovoltaic systems constitute one of the applications of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) with enormous interest in Greece because of its high indicator of sunlight during daytime. The photovoltaic system produces electricity from the solar radiation exploiting the photoelectric phenomenon. The objective of the European Union for 2020 is the 20% of energy consumption to emanate from RES. The advantages of photovoltaic systems are many. It’s an environment friendly technology with almost no maintenance requirements and long duration of life, photovoltaic systems have extension possibilities to cover future needs, they have a lot of flexibility in their applications since they can function as standalone as well as hybridised systems, moreover the solar energy is a decentralized "fuel" which is widely available without any cost. The only disadvantage that we could ascribe to the photovoltaic systems is their cost. Nevertheless the world has begun to turn itself more and more to Renewable Energy Sources specifically to the photovoltaic systems, for the cover or completion of own its energy needs.
